Evolution

A theory is an idea that is widely accepted and supported by a good amount of evidence. So, with this in mind, the words 'just a' don't really fit before the word 'theory'. The phrase 'evolution is just a theory' makes the concept of evolution sound like it is something that does not have a lot of evidence supporting it. It makes it sound like it is just an idea that someone came up with without a lot of research, when in fact there IS a lot of evidence to support the idea of evolution.

There are probably a few different reasons that people take offense to evolutionary concepts. When people hear the word evolution, they may just think of humans coming from monkeys and not liking the sound of that. Others may not like it because they feel it conflicts with their religious beliefs. I personally feel that the theory of evolution itself is just an explanation of the world. It seems like there are a lot of
people who see it as one or the other, evolution or religion. Personally, I think you can have both. The people who look at evolution as 'just a theory' probably have not taken the time to learn about it. They may feel intimidated by it, thinking that it may prove their beliefs wrong. But, I think if everyone took the time to learn about it, rather than brushing it off, they would see how it can fit in with whatever they believe. Choosing to acknowledge evolution doesn't necessarily mean giving up your religious beliefs!

  1. I agree with your blog. Most people who are truly against evolution haven't even taken the time to learn fully what they are denying. I also think religion and evolution can be compatible.

  2. I think you have a really great perspective on this. More people should look at it as a combination of the two. Moreover, they should not take offense to other people trying to make sense of this world. None of us really know anything! So we should respect each others opinions. I think any religion or theory is a means of explanation to our existence, and I doubt we will ever come up with a true factual theory with enough supportive evidence largely because a lot of religion is based solely on faith. Case in point, everyone is entitled to believe in something, and I think it's a good idea to take into consideration all view points.

  3. I like that you touched on the fact that people who take offense to the Evolution Theory probably havn't looked too much into it because it's soooo true. I don't understand how people can't admit that there is even at least a little bit of truth in the Evolution Theory because there is so much evidence.

  4. I agree with your post because the fact that a theory is a widely accepted concept and that makes it very hard to prove wrong. Connected the two concepts of evolution and religion is very well done and makes perfect sense and more people should learn about it. There is too much evidence of evolution to consider is to be false but then religious communities should not see it as an attack on their beliefs.

  5. I really like that you pointed out that people feel like if they believe evolution then they can't be religious and vice versa. It is pretty funny that people feel that way. There is a lot of evidence to support evolution, but really do they know for sure? A lot of people think they know stuff for sure and it isn't always true. I am honestly not on either side here. Evolution could be true, religion could be true, big bang, whatever else. I just do not like when people think they know for sure that one way is the real and only way that it could be. Because really it is all just theory to me. I don't believe that anyone truly knows.

  6. You have a very good angle on this subject. Each person just needs to find the balance between their own beliefs and what science seems to be telling us. But then again, what does anyone know for sure anyway?
